The microwave engineers at Nautilus are leading the drive to encourage new blood to enter the exciting ranks supporting Amateur Radio.

Emergency communications have heavily relied on the flexibility of Amateur Radio operators, who've donated their valuable time, expertise, and equipment for the public good. When daily communications fail, or disaster strikes due to twisters, flood, hurricanes, or quake - Amateur Radio skills have always proven invaluable.

Now that code requirements have been eliminated, persons of all age are welcomed and encouraged to expand their horizons - well beyond the ordinary daily grind.

Need excitement? Consider storm spotting. Need a challenge? Add to your computing skills and link your PC to Amateur Radio for communications on a truly useful global reach. Did you know the International Space Station (ISS) has Amateur Radio onboard for daily use? All it takes is a FCC license. EASY!!

We are forming Iola, Ks. first Amateur Radio club. And having our microwave towers in stratigic locations allows Nautilus to donate radio repeater space that can cover vast swaths across South-East Kansas.

Just to tickle one's imagination - what if a local radio repeater would auto-link through the Internet into a similar repeater in Japan, Germany, Russia, Taiwan, Australia, Ireland, England, Italy, Spain, or Canada... and one could chat with others at that remote location for free, using a small inexpensive 2-way radio?

This is only one of many possibilities for holders of an Amateur Radio license. For more information on future local meetings, phone: (620) 365-7559.
